There are two documents here.  One is for 8th graders, the other is for 7th graders.

8th graders, you will be writing a reflection paper using the attached document as a prompt.  It is read only.  Copy/paste whatever questions you choose to use in your reflection - use the second document that has been attached.

7th graders, you will write a "standard" self-evaluation.  Please use quantitative and qualitative data to support your self eval.  In each section, you must include a statement about your progress, evidence to support your statement, and goals for next year.  Please put headers for each subject area.

For your self evaluation this marking period you will create a google slideshow to discuss your performance in each of your classes. The expectations are as follows:

You will pick one appropriate meme to represent your performance in that class
Write 2-3 sentences about why that meme applies to that class 
Include information about your performance in each class - YOU MUST HAVE QUALITATIVE DATA TO SUPPORT YOUR STATEMENTS!
Include at least one goal for each class - what do you want to achieve during the final marking period of the year?
You will be provided with time in your rotations to complete your self eval.  You will complete 2 slides in each of your classes. The schedule is as follows:

This week, you should focus on finding background information about your topic - the who/what/why/where/when.  Focus on the big picture and as you are doing your research, start to write down some other questions you might want to learn about.  Remember, as you are finding information, you will very likely continue to expand the number of sources you have.

Please use this document for your self evaluations.  Your teacher for each academic area will set aside time for you to fill it out during their class period and provide you with some insights as to what you might want to include.

During this week, you should finalize 12+ rough draft visuals and start work on your final visuals.  You should have 1-3 of your final visuals completed.

PRO TIP - Do NOT back your final visuals with colored paper until you are done with EVERYTHING.  This will allow you to make last minute changes without wasting materials.

During this week, you will create rough drafts of 3-5 visuals.  You should finalize your storyboard for your tri-fold board.  You may find that you still have some outstanding notetaking to do – that’s okay, just stay organized!

This is your chance to make sure you have everything that you need to have done is done!  I will go back and change powerschool scores based on additional work submitted.

This week, I'd like to see what your layout for your research board is going to look like.  You should sketch out your ideas for visuals on your storyboard.  Knowing where and how they are going to be placed on your research board will inform your decisions when you create that individual visual - making sure it is the correct size and proportion.

During this week you are going to see what you know and what information you still need to find.  By Friday, you will have created an outline that organized your material by subtopic.  You will have categorized your notes by subtopic and begun brainstorming ideas for visuals for each of your subtopics.  You should begin to create a storyboard for your tri-fold board.

This week should be spent answering the rest of the questions you have generated.  By the end of the week, you should have about 90% of your notetaking complete and nearly 100 notes.  You may still have some unanswered questions, but don’t worry, you’ll have the next few weeks to organize and finish up the notes.

Notetaking - Week 2

This week you want to delve a little deeper into the questions you have formulated.  You may find that during the previous week of notetaking, you came up with even more questions!  During this week, you should aim to answer 3-5 of your questions and have a minimum of 30 additional notes.
Notes can be taken by hand or can be recorded on the computer.  As before, it is important that sources must be cited and notes must be taken in their own words - not copied directly from the source material.  Remember that all your work needs to be kept in your research notebook.

Notetaking - Week 1

The notetaking process is underway!  This first week should be dedicated to finding background information relating to your topic.  The basic who, what, why, when, where facts should be collected and organized.  You should have a good general overview of your topic.
Notes should be taken by hand but can be recorded on the computer, as long as notes are printed out and put into your research notebook.  It is important that sources must be cited and notes must be taken in your own words - not copied directly from the source material.  For more information on preventing plagiarism, please check out https://www.plagiarism.org/article/preventing-plagiarism-when-writing

Ms. Osten has done a great job providing an overview of what it means to take good notes.  Watch the video and listen carefully as she will lead you through the process of taking thorough and meaningful notes.  The hyperlink *should* send you to an archived google classroom but you should not have any issues accessing the video itself.

Final Topic Selection in Google Classroom

Final Topic Selection

You will have determined what topic you are interested in researching.  You will have read about the topic to get a general overview and through the course of your reading, generated 3-5 questions you hope to answer during the research process.  In addition, you will have identified at least 3-5 reliable sources and annotated these sources in your bibliography.  You are welcome to handwrite or type your questions and sources; however, all information must be put in your research notebook.

This week, your job is to generate 3-5 initial questions about your topic and come up with 3-5 reliable sources. Please watch the attached video or speak with your homeroom teacher for further directions.  Remember, if you type your research notes, they must be printed out and put in your research notebook.
