Conversations on Race

We, as a staff, stand with individuals and organized groups who are protesting against racial injustices in Norwich, in Connecticut and across the United States. We support IDCS staff and students who have protested for racial justice. As our country grapples with the injustices of racism, we need to remember Martin Luther King Jr.’s words, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” One of IDCS’ core tenets is Integration of a Critical Curriculum: IDCS teachers/staff embraced critical pedagogy/instruction to support critical thinking in all content areas. Critical pedagogy is a progressive teaching philosophy that challenges students to examine power structures and patterns of inequality within the status quo. All US citizens and residents, and specifically people of color, must live in a country that is just and fair.
