IDCS Weekly News ~ September 15, 2019

  • All School, September 13: Thanks to John Heck and Ayla Cho for hosting All School. Ms. Murphy’s class led the school in singing BINGO. Mrs. Dearborn’s class shared their time capsule, in which they buried their hopes and dreams until June 2020. Ms. McOmber’s class sang a song for the school. Ms. McGuckin's class shared interesting things about “what’s inside their heads” and they shared information about our school food pantry. Mrs. Cronin’s class shared science safety posters for the science lab.  All Schools are held on Friday mornings from 8:30-9:00 in the school gym. Please see website/school calendar for dates.
  • School Entrance: The school entrance will be under construction over the next couple of weeks. Consequently, the former entrance will be used at various times. Signs/directions will be posted outside the door when there is a change. We expect the new entrance to be completed soon.
  • Fire Drill: Our first fire drill was held on Tuesday, September 10 at 10:00am. The students and staff did a great job exiting the building in 3:18 minutes. Well done to our students and staff! IDCS holds a drill every month.
  • Foundations Committee: September 16 @ 6:00 @ IDCS: The Foundations Committee needs more volunteers! The committee organizes the Wine Tasting and is considering organizing a golf tournament. Please attend the first meeting.
  • IDEA Committee, September 30 6:00 @ IDCS: Integrated Day Education Alliance (IDCS’ Parent/Teacher Organization) needs members! Please attend the first meeting. IDEA plans several major events during the school year and helps support other events. These include IDEA evening events such as Hot Fudge and Fiction (October 10) and One World Day (February 20) and helping with Basket Raffle (April 3), Yearbook Picture taking, the Scholastic Book Fairs, Caring and Sharing, and the Annual Picnic. If any parent/guardian is interested in being on the committee, please contact Dr. Ellen Retelle (ellenr@idcs.org).
  • School Arrival: PLEASE DO NOT DROP YOUR CHILDREN OFF AT THE CROSSWALK AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL DAY. IT IS UNSAFE.
  • Mums Fundraiser: Parents/families who have purchased mums need to be picked up at Malerba’s Farm 634 New London Turnpike, Norwich, CT September 30.
  • Free and Reduced Lunch: Please complete the application and submit it to Mrs. B. at the front desk.
  • Spirit Days: Once a month on Fridays; student council will identify the theme for each spirit day. The first spirit day is September 27. The Student Council will decide on the theme for the Spirit Days, which will be posted in the Friday newsletter.
  • Hot Fudge & Fiction and High School Presentations, October 11, 5:30-7:00: The evening starts with a potluck in the IDCS dining room. Then, students in PreK to Grade 5 will choose to go to three classes to listen to a fiction book. Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 will attend the high school presentations on the 3rd floor.  Representatives from various schools will share information with parents and students. The evening will end with all students receiving a hot fudge sundae in the dining room.
  • Lost & Found: Bins will be located near the former main entrance area. Periodically, pictures of lost and found items will be posted in the newsletter. At the end of every term, the clothes will be donated.
  • October 11 No School – Staff will be attending professional development workshops.
  • October 14 No School – Indigenous People’s Day.
